Write in the morning, revise in the afternoon, read at night

Today one of my followers said that I ‘can’t write for toffee’. Yesterday, one more – a promoter – said that my Sophia von X book cover sucks – seems it all starts well, as usually 😂.
My answer is clear – these kind of followers goes to ->>>>> spam ( I actually found it in my spam lol so, I’m thinking: approve it or block it?). I’m probably too kind even to think about it…

A couple of days ago I read the book about ‘mistakes the authors make’. One of them – to criticize those who criticize their books. I have no such plans, why should I? I can always make them the heroes of my story and then… kill them. Ah, first I’d torture them – killing is too easy 😜🔫🔫

Jumping to the positive,
sharing the quotes I found (about writing)… picked by me. Enjoy, such a fun read!

  • If you are in difficulties with a book, try the element of surprise: attack it at an hour when it isn’t expecting it. H.G. Wells
  • Don’t say the old lady screamed. Bring her on and let her scream. Mark Twain
  • Throw up into your typewriter every morning. Clean up every noon. Raymond Chandler
  • When you write a book, you spend day after day scanning and identifying the trees. When you’re done, you have to step back and look at the forest. Stephen King
  • The best work that anybody ever writes is the work that is on the verge of embarrassing him, always. Arthur Miller
  • It’s hell writing and it’s hell not writing. The only tolerable state is having just written. Robert Hass

Put your soul in the palm of my hand
for me to look at, like a crystal jewel.
I’ll sketch it in words…
Yasunari Kawabata

  • You should always be trying to write a poem you are unable to write, a poem you lack the technique, the language, the courage to achieve. Otherwise you’re merely imitating yourself, going nowhere, because that’s always easiest… John Berryman
  • Writing is like making love. Don’t worry about the orgasm – concentrate on the process. Isabel Allende
  • The shame of being a man – is there any better reason to write? Gilles Deleuze
  • Finishing a book is just like you took a child out in the back yard and shot it. Truman Capote

I am writing because they told me to never start a sentence with because. But I wasn’t trying to make a sentence – I was trying to break free. Because freedom, I am told, is nothing but the distance between the hunter and its prey. Ocean Vuong

  • End with an image and don’t explain. Stanley Kunitz
  • Trying to write is very much like trying to put a Chinese puzzle together. We have a pattern in mind which we wish to work out in words; but the words will not fit the spaces, or, if they do, they will not match the design. Helen Keller
  • Always get to the dialogue as soon as possible. I always feel the thing to go for is speed. Nothing puts the reader off more than a big slab of prose at the start. P.G. Wodehouse

No doubt I shall go on writing,
stumbling across tundras of unmeaning,
planting words like bloody flags in my wake…
Alexander Trocchi

  • Writing is like sausage making in my view; you’ll all be happier in the end if you just eat the final product without knowing what’s gone into it. George R.R. Martin
  • There’s nothing on Earth like really nailing the last line of a big book. You have 200 pages to tickle their fancy, and 7 words to break their heart. Alex de Campi
  • A good piece of fiction, in my view, does not offer solutions. Good stories deal with our moral struggles, our uncertainties, our dreams, our blunders, our contradictions, our endless quest for understanding. Good stories do not resolve the mysteries of the human spirit but rather describe and expand up on those mysteries. Tim O’Brien
  • I have always been a huge admirer of my own work. I’m one of the funniest and most entertaining writers I know. Mel Brooks

No one wants to read poetry. You have to make it impossible for them to put the poem down – impossible for them to stop reading it, word after word. You have to keep them from closing the book. Muriel Rukeyser

  • I had a romance novel inside me, but I paid three sailors to beat it out of me with steel pipes. Patton Oswalt
  • An original writer is not one who imitates nobody, but one whom nobody can imitate. François-René de Chateaubriand

Hi Ray! I enjoyed reading all the quotes from different authors. It reminded me that my opinion that I suck at writing is appropriate. So, I do it to have something to do because it rains a lot here and I can’t get past my mother telling me I had to have enough brains to stay out of the rain if I wanted to live a long healthy life. Thus, I write.
