People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.
Bodhicitta is literally a heart – our wounded, tender, some way melancholic heart. A heart that has desire and determination to overcome all the limitations of life (or our Ego) to become whole. A heart full of unconditioned love and sadness. It has everything you need to stop your fears. Fears, that you have to be someone else, that you have to behave, to smell or to look differently…
I know you are thinking: Right, love and compassion are tattooed on my chest from the day I was born! But let’s face it, Ray, it isn’t easy to live with that kind of sincerity… all damn time.
Husband: I’d like to invite my secretary to our bedroom tonight, dear. She really loves to read.
Wife: I can read for you, sweetie.
Husband: But she got piercing in her tongue. And almost invisible Victoria Secrets panties…
Wife kills the husband.
People are looking for happiness. Everywhere and all the time. The thing is… it is already inside.
You are both: happy + unhappy.
And that’s OK!
We are connected to each other, we can’t cut off our feelings like the old cables. We can’t avoid problems, pain, death… We can’t escape from aggression and ignorance. And when we’ll understand that, then we can try to expand our hearts. A little bit more. More! Because it is really HUGE.
Your Bodhicitta is able to develop MORE love, MORE warmth, and MORE kindness. Just let it flow!
- Recognize kindness
- Pay back with kindness
- Show affectionate love
- Spread compassion
Congrats! You are one TRUE Bodhicitta now!
Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche, a Nepali monk practising in Kopal Monastery, states that in order to generate Bodhicitta, you must start the day with ‘the bodhicitta attitude’: when meeting people – accept their kindness and wish that no harm would come to them.
And this is … my enlightenment-message for you: disappoint your Ego today, fight the Chaos, make one more step toward Love!
Suffering means you’re having a bad dream. Happiness means you’re having a good dream. Enlightenment means getting out of the dream altogether.
