Life isn’t simple. Writing shouldn’t be either.

Message of the day:ย

You are the swan…
The infinite creative power
and
The god of sensitive mystic.
Believe in yourself and write on! ย

1.ย The first draft of ‘Sophia von X’ is ready! ๐Ÿ˜œย YAY!ย I know you are REALLY excited to meet my girl,ย especially when you are looking into her eyes…๐Ÿ˜ปย ย This is the story about transformation of a simple Sicilian woman (f. teacher) into a very Dangerous Criminal (& the face behind 4ASS organisation). Genre: action/thriller.

2. Interesting article about book blurb (mostly for poetry books) –ย The occult art of the poetry book blurb

3. My bookmarks – to spread around wherever I go…

4. The BF-magazine with the schedule, seminars, news and plans has arrived today! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜œโ˜•๏ธย Gothenburg Book Fair 2019 – here I come ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ’ƒ

5. Kvetching ‘Pearl’, ch. 20 – the text is ready, now I have to create a normal chapter from this crap ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

6. Three COOL and funny quotes of the day.

Itโ€™s hard to say something about Pushkin to a person who doesnโ€™t know anything about him… Pushkin is a great poet. Napoleon is not as great as Pushkin. Bismarck compared to Pushkin is a nobody. And the Alexanders, First, Second and Third, are just little kids compared to Pushkin. In fact, compared to Pushkin, all people are little kids, except Gogol. Compared to him, Pushkin is a little kid.
And so, instead of writing about Pushkin, I would rather write about Gogol.
Although, Gogol is so great that not a thing can be written about him, so I’ll write about Pushkin after all.
Yet, after Gogol, itโ€™s a shame to have to write about Pushkin. But you canโ€™t write anything about Gogol. So Iโ€™d rather not write anything about anyone.โ€ ย Daniil Kharms, “Today I Wrote Nothing”

I must warn you that the books I like are not necessarily the ones I think are the best.ย Gabriel Garcรญa Mรกrquez

Yes, I read. I have that absurd habit. I like beautiful poems, moving poetry, and all the beyond of that poetry. I am extraordinarily sensitive to those poor, marvelous words left in our dark night by a few men I never knew…โ€ Louis Aragon

Next post – well, well, well… soon! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคช

Just stopped by to say excellent piece ๐Ÿ˜€ Iโ€™m too busy reading Gogol, and itโ€™s crucial I finish him tonight ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜

  2. Tom Darby says:

The number six is so heady. LOL

  3. Victoria Ray NB says:

    Haha agreed ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘‹

  4. masercot says:

I should write something about Gogol…

    • Victoria Ray NB says:

You should ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ just to tease Pushkin a bit …

      • masercot says:

Did you know that he wrote a sequel to Dead Souls; but, on the advice of a friend in the clergy, burned it in the fireplace the day before he died?

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

Yep I am ๐Ÿ˜‰ -> because 1) Russian ๐Ÿ˜‚ 2) nobody knows why he burned it… 3) Gogol was a greatest liar (as person, plus weird as F!) He actually supported โ€œlyingโ€ & even encouraged it. 4) Gogol died …just 10 days after he burned his volume 2. The mystery of it all – from exhaustion (he didnโ€™t eat anything hmmm). He wasnโ€™t poor man lol 5) Gogol was eccentric (people hated to talk to him but they respected his genius, he was celeb, too popular) 6) I have PhD in Classic Russian Literature lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

Maybe ill write volume 2 one day, cuz seems noone dare

      • masercot says:

I learned something. Glad I brought it up.

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

        ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

  5. Hyperion says:

I looked into Sophiaโ€™s eyes but her lips got jealous and interrupted. While they argued, I fell in love with the deep red dress and white polka dots. We left to have lunch in my imagination. Great intro Ray and I enjoyed all else that followed; a cornucopia of cool and fun writerly things.

    • Victoria Ray NB says:

      Haha
You are still alive, so I suppose she like you โ€œwinkโ€ ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ˜€

      • Hyperion says:

Waa haaa haaa! Sophia was very nice and well mannered and so was I. Fortunately, there were no cuts, bruises, or puncture wounds or excessive sweating. Probably because, I woke from my daydream before anything could go wrong. ๐Ÿ˜…

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

Very much like โ€œherโ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ be careful next time tho…she love messing with peopleโ€™s heads ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ•บ

She is mostly interested in โ€œkillingโ€ folks – old fashion way, no ropes lol

      • Hyperion says:

Oh yes…. My kinda girl. No wonder we hit it off so well. I think I can teach her a few ropes. One should never be a one trick pony in the business, otherwise work gets boring. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

Might be handy…the ropes ๐Ÿ™‚ good idea to teach her ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ”ช

      • Hyperion says:

Now when you write the highly sucessful sequel, Sophia will have a few more skills she can use in the story. I canโ€™t wait to read the book. Iโ€™ll be looking for your release announcement ๐Ÿ˜

      • Victoria Ray NB says:

The book will be published (earliest) January…:) and thx for supporting ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ”ช Iโ€™ll attach 2 chapters (clean read) to my newsletter followers (in September). U can check the text there…but Sophia is not Sophia yet ๐Ÿ™‚ sheโ€™s Sabina ๐Ÿ˜ฌ …sheโ€™ll become Sophia von X (after meeting with, ah – Hyperion?! ๐Ÿ˜‚).

      • Hyperion says:

Alrighty, this gets better and better. Iโ€™m sure Hyperion would like nothing better than to help turn Sabina into Sophia von X, a really bombshell badass Lady with those eyes that draw you closer to the blade.

Sounds like youโ€™re in an exciting place with your projects!

    • Victoria Ray NB says:

Yes, very interesting and sometimes Iโ€™m totally forgetting about the time ๐Ÿ˜‚ but also a lot of work. Sitting thinking – thinking sitting. Writing โœ๏ธ โœ๏ธ โœ๏ธ :))

  10. Enjoyed the post today, Victoria Ray. Loved the quotes and the cover of your new book. I liked the description on the cover, Compulsively Addictive.

  11. I wish I could write like Pushkin, I mean Gogol, I mean both. I feel like a little kid.

  12. I so agree with the idea that the best books and the ones you love might be not the same.
