“Every single person is sacred. Sacred means special, precious, a treasure of true beauty. That means you.” Amy Leigh Mercree
Being “special” isn’t fun.
I know, every movie, book, or song continue to praise our “uniqueness” or exceptional abilities, powers, “kick-side-weirdness”. But when you are “different” or extraordinary, you have much more troubles than those who are not. Because those who are not…can continue their regular, normal life while you have to run, fight and at the end (be ready, there’s a 90%-possibility) – die.
The book “Heir of Ashes” is about a very special girl with unlimited skills and potential, about luck and fortune that follows her wherever she goes, about simply learning to trust people and also about wisdom, ignorance, hate, greed and power.
Roxanne Fosch can see your aura. All you have to do – approach her at a distance of 15 feet. She can see what the kind of creature you are.
It is a necessity for her survival – to interpret auras of people.
The world is full of vampires, werewolves, dark magicians, guards from the underground world, and mad scientists. You just have to open your eyes and look around. Do you see a cute guy in the corner chewing his big Mac while looking at you with some kind of “paranormal desire”? He is definitely a PRE-NATURAL. Take your purse and slowly, yes, slowly go to the bathroom. Check the windows.
No windows? = No escape.
Go back and fight him!
That’s how they met: Roxy and Logan (he is a mix between vampire and wolf). What? Name sounds familiar? I’d be careful from now on. If you know any Logan – call Jina S. Bazzar (or click on her name). She knows how to deal with those dangerous guys!
So, Roxy meets Logan and it starts:
An escape…filled with the endless fights.
Yes, you heard me right! That girl is familiar with Kung Fu, Capoeira, Krav Maga, Judo, Okichitaw, Danzan Ryu, Tai Chi Chuan, Tomoi, Nhat Nam and bare-knuckle boxing…add slow burning hara-kiri if you think it wasn’t enough to make you want to run to the store and get the book!
She is John Wick in the skirt!
Of course, Ms Fosch has a ‘very vulnerable side’ – she is a girl after all. Roxy is looking for the real love and a hug.
A tight hug.
In the hotel room.
Ah, I need to be alone for a minute…
I do not read books about vampires or werewolves. At least, not on a daily basis. The last one was “Twilight” and I read it only because I watched the movie…probably 17 times (only part 1 though). The idea of the book isn’t new, but it grabs you. You want to know what’s wrong with the girl, why she is taken from her home when she is only 13 years old, who are her real parents and what kind of the dark secrets Paranormal Society is hiding.
- the narrative, it’s smooth and cool. I like Roxy. Ray feel related to Roxy some way (maybe we belong to the same clan?)
- Logan’s past and story
- a sense of humor is a nice touch
- action and suspense on each page
- Remo Drammen
I didn’t like:
- names like Logan and Maxmell. I mean…it’s too obvious.
- very ‘visual’ book because of the fight descriptions, but I had some difficulties to follow up who punched whom.
Clear, well written. I was a bit surprised how everything just ‘flows’…
Question to ask yourself (to all writers out there): Could you be happy if you woke up and suddenly you were the hero of your book?
Advice to Roxy (my new friend): There’s no need to put your heart in the bottle. Let it be free!
To the readers: If ‘fighting’ was the language…I’m sure we’d say Roxy Fosch is a new #BruceLee of the commercial literature of XXI century.

Next review on Ray’s list is “How to grow a novel” by Sol Stein. A short warm-up-note from the book:
The hero of your book is a memorable experience for the reader. Never forget that! Reader wants:
All of the above is given to you in the book “Heir of Ashes”, Jina S. Bazzar. Enjoy!
At the end (from Ray): A reader is seeking for an excitement that does not usually occur in daily life. So, if you are writing “the skies are blue” you won’t go too far.
So, please, make it purple…
