I believe that creativity is some kind of human magic because AI and robots still can’t achieve our imaginary level. However, being creative isn’t easy and doesn’t come naturally. The problems with this kind of magic:
- it isn’t random,
- it has nothing to do with inspiration,
- you aren’t born this way; you can train your brain to be more creative.
How? By doing creative work (in your field) over a long period of time. Ta-ta! 😉✌️
Do you remember the rule of 10.000 hours? I guess here is hidden the answer to genius and creativity.
That’s the great secret of creativity. You treat ideas like cats: you make them follow you. If you try to approach a cat and pick it up, hell, it won’t let you do it. You’ve got to say, “Well, to hell with you.” And the cat says, “Wait a minute. He’s not behaving the way most humans do.” Then the cat follows you out of curiosity: “Well, what’s wrong with you that you don’t love me?” Ray Bradbury Zen in the Art of Writing
I made some changes in The Pearl Territory:
- the planets: changed Mars to Titan
- the number of the original survivors is now 1296 (let’s say 12 people from 12 tribes is 144. 144 multiply by 9 circles or regions = 1296)
- there’re 55 characters/heroes in the book
- there’re 33 chapters: private journals and dialogues
- genre: post-apocalyptic, metaphysical fantasy, a surreal drama
The full book cover (print) will be posted next week. But the front of the book looks like this:
55 heroes! Damn! As you see, being creative is tough. Many artists give up in frustration when they’re trying to complete a project: book, song, painting.
But wait… check out what Elizabeth Gilbert said about the importance of dissatisfaction and failure: “The frustration, the hard part, the obstacle, the insecurities, the difficulty, the I don’t know what to do with this thing now, that’s the creative process!”
The conclusion: Go ahead, rage when you need it! 😬
If still in doubt, remember… that no one is nothing. Everyone has a place and a purpose. Some choose their purpose and others have it thrust upon them, but no one is useless. Everyone is someone. You are someone. This world has a use for you. That’s why you are here.
Next post – Book Review
I think of creativity as attacking a concept from all sides with every other concept you’ve ever learned and seeing if any connections form. If you are looking for irony, just choose the concepts that diametrically contradict the original concept.
It’s how I came up with my novella on the international terrorist who was also a lamb. My friends called it the worst thing ever written, but they really don’t read that much…
“Diametrically contradict” – that’s a great thought! I think it would work for me if I could “think” 😂 or at least had more ideas than 1 😅🤨
The worst thing ever written is probably a masterpiece for the younger/next generation!! So, write on!! 👏👏🙌💜☀️
If any of the writing I’ve seen has been imaginative, it has been yours…
👋😀💜
Indeed, creativity is magic. To absorb all of what you’ve done so far, mash parts of that together, take pieces and shape them into something different, with your own spin on it, something that is important and beautiful to you.
Well said 👌
Sounds like this creative project and its scope definitely tested your persistence…but your creativity persevered.
I hate editing… im always trying to write “kinda clean” cuz I hate rewriting. Actually… I never done any rewriting yet.
Damn it is. 55 characters is just fucking wow. Now THAT’S what I call creative.
And I loooove that cover.
Thank you, it’s a real painting 🙂 I bought it for this book. Yeah, 55… it’s a nightmare, to keep track of them all 😅
Yay! I bet.
Congratulations on the book, VR. I must say if anyone knows about creativity it is you. 😊
💚💜😛 still 9.500 hours to go 😂
😁
55! I’m not even sure I know that many people let alone remember their names!
😂😜 I’m happy it’s only 55, tho. I was scared it would be more, but then I counted them yesterday…
& that’s the point – you have to read the book at once, in 1 sitting lol 😂 or you have to start from the beginning again, on the next day :))
Will do – every day already a new beginning with my memory!
It’s a short book. But packed with lots of hugs & deaths :)) 🤪
Short – works for me!
Gosh, 55! You sure are the epitome of creativity! 🏆
Haha 😛 thank you!! 💚☀️
You are welcome!😀💙
Anybody can write. But to write something that makes you sit back and go “Fucking A” . . that requires some rolled up sleeves.
You are magic to come up with so many characters. But you are right – we all have the seeds of creativity and it takes work to make something grow from them. Heck, start with something you dreamed last night. I do better working in the non-fiction realm, but with a LOT of hard work could write a story. Maybe I’ll just go doodle or paint, though.
Thank u & I think, each your non-fiction story is such enormous inspiration for those who r writing contemporary or historical fiction 🙂
Thanks, Victoria. True stories do sometimes scream out for some embellishment in a fictional way. I may try my hand at one, someday.
Cats and creativity. Purrfect!! You are always enjoyable, no matter what you come up with. Smiling as I am thinking about your creativity and YOU!
You said it, being creative is hard, but 55 heroes? Damn I need to read this!
😂👋 well, if u love reading paperbacks, I can send you one later when the book is published 😃
Ain’t that the truth! But you are so creative. I also think you’re a bit of a juggler.
Creativity comes to me in spurts – like lightning striking. I’m just lucky if I’m in a place where I can write it down. Or file it away in my brain and let it out later
💚👍
