Because “the poet” or “the poem” means – boring...at least teens at the school think so.
It’s also some way cryptic = people don’t like what they can’t grasp = sometimes they can’t relate too.
Then the image of “the poet” is often: 1) a crazy lonely dude in the long dirty coat/with long hair or without hair+add odd glasses OR 2) a romantic chick madly in love or heart broken, crying over the past.
Mmm sad though. Because the poetry is so much more than the poetry 💙 😉👋
“I’m a poet.”
I wish that statement was met with more interest and respect.
“We’re going to read some poetry.”
I wish that statement was met with less groans.
What is it about poetry and being a poet that gets such bad reps? Everyone still likes music. If I said I was a songwriter and we’re going to listen to music, that would be received differently. Is is just the term that’s gained such a negative connotation? Why?
