It’s International Women’s Day! Here in the UK, 2018 is an incredibly important year as it marks 100 years since some women got the vote. The image on my header for this post is a cartoon which was published on the 6th of June 1910 in Punch Magazine. It’s entitled The Suffragette that Knew Jiu-Jitsu and it depicts Edith Margaret Garrud who was one of the first female professional martial arts instructors in the West. She also trained the Bodyguard unit of the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in jujutsu and other self-defence techniques. She was an absolute badass.

There are so many women that I could honour today so I’d just like to mention a few women that inspire me…

Mary Wollstonecraft

Author of The Vindication of the Rights of Woman, Mary Wollstonecraft was an outspoken proto-feminist writer. Her ideas seem somewhat outdated to us but she worked with the society she had…

  1. glad you wow, truth is (problems) if I were to edit; I missed the (punctuation) (humorous twist) at the end of middle sentence;

    so heed these words; men must adapt and learn to listen to what the woman is saying, even how shes saying it, needs (you never know, it may just save the world!)

    and the expression goes April/showers : May/flowers 2018

    thank you, you, and all of that.

  2. Happy international Woman’s Day!

    I just wanted to say a word, of a, woman, and a writer, a word of “appreciation!” for this, day, and every day -to;

    you are a truly inspirational beutifull person, /raynotbradbury.

    I’m playing with some writing, I’d love to share with you on, your blog, (good, words?)

    secretly; I agree with the Dalai Lama~

    so in 2010 the Dalai Lama said; “western women will save the world” -oops, it seems this “western” women; have already been doing that, for hundreds of years, and what of the Victorian era, the other side of the pond, but still considered “western”/ so here we stand; 2018; just who and when, and what and how, do we do, to justly stand for the truth and the light.

    so as the story is, the world is in continuous peril, and every day, in every way, it is women, constantly saving each and alls world; like, non stop!

    so heed these words; men must adapt and learn to listen to what the woman is saying, even how shes saying it,

    I think the 21st century, the information age, and our time, the dawn of the march for days of March; 2018 – I love the prophetic statement the Dalai Lama said, and it is great as it is true; (however)

    it is both, men, and, women, that bear the onus, for the magnitude of the plethora of problems we face, in each a solution gives way to; a great, market opportunity, get creative human race, stand for right-2018

    or maybe, April flowers/ May showers + /2018 ~
